Lady Glide

Once, Dave told me I surf with a beautiful feminine style. I knew he ment well, but I was secretly offended. As a “girl surfer,” it can get tiring being treated as some other species in the water. The phrase you are pretty good for a girl can sum it up fairly nicely. However,  there is something to this.

When you watch a woman that has that something, that can really, truly surf. It is unlike any other way a wave is riden. The feminine style is one that moves with and receives the wave as the gift that it is. I would contrast this style up against the masculine style, one that overpowers the wave and tries to make it into something that it is not. The masculine style is the Rider, like the cowboy out for a thrill at the roadio. While this is quite amuseing to watch and sells contests and big name brands, I would have to say personally, favor the feminine style. The Glider.

To be fair, the  Glide is not reserved only to women. I know many dudes that glide with a most graceful style. Man or woman, however you do it, do it with style.

But from now on, when someone tells me I have a feminine style, I will thank them and simply glide away.

For school internship credit I went back in time (totally no big deal—kinda like studying abroad) and was studying the cultural dynamics of that time period in the work place. I had to blend in and become part of the system: not an easy task in an environment wrought with inequalities and foul play. But most of my worries went toward picking out an outfit…
